Beautifully decorated market square in Hirschau

Built in the early Renaissance period between 1539 and 1543, the Old Town Hall is today the landmark of the city of Weiden. A town hall stood here as early as 1400, but burned down to its foundations in 1536. While the new town hall, subsequently constructed by master builder Hans Nopl, served the administration on the upper floors, the ground floor housed sixteen shops. Since the construction of the New Town Hall in 1978, a city council meeting has been held here only once a year. It is also used for weddings and special receptions. Shops still house the ground floor today. A remarkable carillon chimes daily at 11:35 a.m. and 4:35 p.m.

Weiden owes its connection to the railway network in 1863 to Gustav Ritter von Schlör (1820 to 1883), the last Royal Bavarian Minister of Trade. Schlör was a staunch advocate of a comprehensive railway network. As director of the private Eastern Railway Company, he pushed through the state parliament for the construction of the railway line from Schwandorf via Weiden to Bayreuth, thus laying the foundation for the economic development of this structurally weak region. In recognition of his services, the city of Weiden made von Schlör an honorary citizen in 1878. Today, the square named after him and the monument erected in 1885 commemorate him. The monument was designed by architect Carl Hocheder, and the marble bust was by sculptor Theodor Haf. Weiden's technical college/vocational college and a hall in the Max Reger Hall are also named after him.

A beautiful park, located directly outside the city walls. Well-kept paths and flowerbeds, cozy and secluded seating areas, a lawn, and areas along the water's edge make the park pleasant and worth a visit. During the summer months, Max Reger Park hosts the "Weiden Summer Serenades."

The old wheel house is a feast for the eyes.

The water feature is sure to be beautifully showcased with the lighting embedded in the ground. The water fountains emerge from the floor jets at intervals. The whole thing is crowned by two imposing deer. Truly a successful eye-catcher.
