A great hiking and cycling route.

Hi, We had a great hike today in the Duhner Heide nature reserve in Cuxhaven. We explored the Duhner Heide, which is a protected area, and it was wonderful – well worth a visit, even in February 💝. A quick trip to the beach was a must, of course – always beautiful 😊. A fantastic cycling and hiking trail runs through the beautiful natural surroundings. 🔭Altenbruch observation tower: Located directly on the dike in Altenbruch, it offers a panoramic view of the Elbe estuary. Since the shipping channel runs very close to the shore here, this is the best place to see the huge container ships almost at eye level.

The "Dicke Berta" (Big Bertha) is a lighthouse in Cuxhaven-Altenbruch. This listed building, located at the mouth of the Elbe River, served as a lower light from 1897 to 1983; its associated upper light, "Schlanke Anna" (Slim Anna), no longer exists. The "Dicke Berta" is currently closed.
