The Holzhausen Roman Fort is an impressive example of Roman military architecture on the Upper Germanic Limes—now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is idyllically situated in the forest near Holzhausen an der Haide in the Rhein-Lahn district and is one of the best-preserved Limes forts in Germany.

This is where the Wisper River rises. The Wiper Valley winds its wild, romantic way to Lorch, where it flows into the Rhine. A very beautiful route, also for cyclists. But only during the week. Motorcyclists flood the route on weekends ;-)

The route is wonderfully smooth and has a constant gradient of around 2 degrees. There are alternating wooded and open sections.

Next to the busy road and somewhat hidden away is this observation tower on the "Pohl". There used to be two Roman forts here. The view is worth it.
