The Holzhausen Roman Fort is an impressive example of Roman military architecture on the Upper Germanic Limes—now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is idyllically situated in the forest near Holzhausen an der Haide in the Rhein-Lahn district and is one of the best-preserved Limes forts in Germany.

There is a lot to discover here, especially if you want to find out more about the Romans. It's open 24 hours and when we were there (Saturday afternoon) we were the only ones there. It's definitely worth a detour.

Unfortunately, in 2022 the path was totally unridable directly at the pond car park and approx. another 500 m, reworking the wood in rainy weather, the result was a total loss at 100 m, 400 m 80% damage

It's always nice when you come out of the forest into the open area on the descent and the view of Hohlenfels Castle comes across. It is privately owned and is actually inhabited. There is hardly a better location.
