The Freiburg harbor channel is an approximately 2 km long, unclassified federal waterway in the district of Stade in Lower Saxony. It serves as an access route from the Lower Elbe to the Freiburg harbor and is under the jurisdiction of the Elbe-North Sea Waterways and Shipping Authority. It is classified as an inland waterway subject to the Maritime Shipping Regulations.

A wonderful walk on the beach in December 2025 in glorious sunny weather. A visit is recommended at any time of year. Major renovations are currently taking place here on Krautsand beach.

The Krautsand lighthouse today consists of a distinctive red and white steel lattice upper light (1907) and a modern, fiberglass lower light (1978), which together form a leading line to guide ships safely through the Elbe River. This line is characterized by a synchronized flashing pattern of 8 seconds, designed to facilitate navigation. The old lower light tower was demolished in 1978; the new lower light is a slender fiberglass structure. Krautsand Upper Light (The Visible Landmark): Year Built: 1907. Construction: Hexagonal steel lattice tower. Color: Painted red and white. Function: Originally served as a lateral mark, now part of the leading line. A very nice campsite is located here on Krautsand. Just over the dike and you're already at the Elbe River and the beautiful Krautsand beach. There's also a dog beach and a lifeguard on duty during the summer months. A small children's playground and a bistro are available. A large parking area, toilet facilities, and an open-air shower are also provided.
