The Schwerter Forest is a large forest area between the cities of Schwerte and Dortmund. This area is located south of the Dortmund district of Aplerbeck and stretches along a ridge of the Ardey Mountains. It is not only a popular local recreation area, but also of great ecological importance. Particularly noteworthy is the nature trail in the Schwerter Forest, which invites visitors to explore the forest with all their senses at 20 experience stations. Here, nature lovers can get to know the local flora and fauna and learn more about the importance of the forest for the ecosystem. The highlights of the forest include small stream valleys, the Blue Lake, a former quarry, and a small reservoir in the upper reaches of the Gehrenbach. Another interesting destination in the Schwerter Forest is the Schwerter Orchid Farm, which is located right next to the forest. This nursery cultivates over 100,000 orchids in various forms and hybrids on an area of 3,000 square meters and is a magnet for plant lovers.

A completely normal, quite nice forest path. As you can easily see from the photos, the most impressive thing is the chic villas and their well-kept gardens 😂😂

Small pond that seemed almost dried out even after weeks of continuous rain and looked rather sad. I understand the appeal of water in the forest, but that really wasn't great - today! There are a lot of benches around it, all of which were occupied; apparently the pond (on a sign it was called "duck pond") is quite popular after all

The Mutter-Möller-Weg in the Schwerter Heide is a popular route for nature lovers. It offers moderately difficult hikes through dense forests and along the Gehrenbach, which leads through picturesque ponds and enriches the area with its natural beauty. Hikers can start the route from Aplerbecker Mark to enjoy a 7.73 km long tour that impresses with its varied landscape and quiet atmosphere. The path along the Gehrenbach, which is praised for its charming surroundings, is particularly recommended.
