The bathing area and its surroundings have changed a lot in recent years. Some of the photos depict a beauty and idyllic setting that no longer exists. There's definitely no bench or it's overgrown. However, swimming is perfectly possible.

Very nice view of this picturesque body of water with its many bays, peninsulas and islands. A slight change of location and yet another panorama 🤗

During a walk on Pehlitzwerder you will find a remarkable variety of a total of 183 tree and shrub species. These include impressive examples of English oak, grove beech and juniper. For a long time Pehlitzwerder was popularly known as the “goat island” because cows, sheep and goats grazed here. In this way, numerous "hat trees" were able to grow into stately solitary trees without competition from young trees. The most magnificent and oldest examples include 300 to 500-year-old oaks (Quercus robur), a 400-year-old sessile oak (Quercus petraea), two 200-year-old hornbeams (Carpinus betulus), and an 80-year-old hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna ) and a 120-year-old juniper (Juniperus communis), mighty service berries (Sorbus torminalis) and old, overgrown domestic pears. Near the remains of the foundations of the Mariensee Monastery you can find an imposing, mighty winter lime tree (Tilia cordata) almost 500 years old. Most of the trees are on the list of natural monuments and therefore enjoy special protection. The history of the Mariensee monastery ruin began when the Ascanian margrave brothers, Johann I and Otto III, shared control of the country. The Lehnin monastery was considered to be the home monastery of Margrave Otto III. and his descendants. It was therefore necessary for Johann I and his descendants to build a burial place. In 1260 the Cistercians started building the daughter monastery Mariensee on the Pehlitzwerder. The remains of the foundations still show the planned three-aisled Romanesque basilica of enormous dimensions. Probably because of the arduous management, the monks decided to move the monastery to the immediate vicinity of the Choriner See. In 1273 the margrave confirmed the official relocation and the name was changed to Chorin Monastery. Most of the building material for the Mariensee monastery was removed and used for the construction of the new monastery complex in Chorin. The natural campsite at Parsteiner See is uncomplicated, inexpensive and completely satisfactory if you only spend one night there. Due to the proximity to the lake, the night in the tent with minimal equipment was quite humid.
