Anyone cycling past Bedaplatz in Bitburg who wants to enjoy some art and culture should take a break and visit the Bedahaus. Even in the atrium, there are many sculptures to admire.

Here you can hike through a beautiful avenue of beech and oak trees, almost entirely alone. A delight for every hiking enthusiast in every season.

Plenty of benches invite you to relax. There's also a small children's playground. The kiosk was closed during our visit.

When there are no events, Bedaplatz is the preferred parking spot in the city center. Parking is free for three hours.

The new market place, built in 1976/77 in the area between Brodenheckstrasse and Karenweg, was initially given the name "Neu-Markt". A short time later, however, it was decided to give the square its current name "Beda Platz". This name is intended to keep alive the memory of the oldest form of Bitburg's name. Beda, the settlement on the dominant hill between Nims and Kyll, was most likely founded in pre-Roman times. Roman inscriptions from the 3rd and 4th centuries AD record the Latinized form "Beda vicus". Bitburg was a day's journey north of the royal seat of Trier on an important military road that crossed the Eifel and connected the cities of Trier and Cologne.
