To us passersby, such a millpond, as it presents itself here, may seem ordinary, but there is another perspective: For example, in the world of Otfried Preußler (1923–2013), who became famous for his imaginative children's books, it looks quite different: Here, such a millpond is also the incredibly exciting habitat of a family of water sprites. His still-popular book, "The Little Water Sprite," tells wonderful stories of the adventures experienced by the family's youngest members. On an audiobook CD, the water sprite mother sings her son to sleep: "Little water sprite, close your eyes and let yourself rest a little, I'll sit here for a while and watch you sleep. May your dreams guide you and touch you wonderfully, and when you wake up again, a new year will begin for you."

Awesome way to shoot

It is artificially created and first documented in 1364. The catchment area of the Ellerazhofer Weiher includes the villages of Ellerazhofen, Lanzenhofen, and Willerazhofen, as well as the hamlets of Kauter and Willerazhofer Bad, all of which belong to the town of Leutkirch. The railway line from Leutkirch to Kisslegg runs along the southern shore of the pond.

The Children's Festival Fountain in the Evangelische Kirchengasse commemorates the large-scale Children's Festival that has been celebrated in Leutkirch since 1808.

People cycle and hike here, and there are also some cars taking this shortcut. So please always be on your guard....
