A good idea for cyclists was implemented in a modest way. The climb and descent are quite steep, and the rails for pushing bikes are positioned very close to the foot of the railings, requiring you to hold your bikes at a 45-degree angle. A disaster for users of e-bikes and heavier bikes, with or without luggage. Not a showcase for German engineering. But it was quite expensive. The bridge remains a highlight nonetheless, as it is the only way for miles around to get into or out of the Tangersdorf Heath.

The great relief wall is quite far away from all the other buildings, but is still quite easy to find. You walk along the straight main path through the beautiful forest (first beech, then oak, in one place spruce) to the end. Where this path, on which trucks often drive (to transport rubble), continues at a right angle to the right, you take the clearly visible path that leads further into the area in a slight left curve. The prohibition signs, usually high up in the trees, indicate almost reliably where it is or could be interesting. Caution is generally advisable, not only because of the wild terrain and many tripping hazards, but also because of possible ammunition remains. But the latter problem applies to absolutely all former military areas on former GDR territory, which are often huge and sometimes represent wonderful excursion destinations as sandy heathlands. Warnings are everywhere and constantly. But in 34 years, no one has ever heard of any accidents, and no deer have ever been torn to pieces. So the whole thing with the prohibition signs seems to me more like a government obligation and economic protection, purely from an insurance point of view, and less like a serious threat to pedestrians and cyclists.

Where the wider path turns to the right, you just have to walk straight on the path a little way back. You reach the building, but it is mostly hidden under a heavily overgrown hill. There are actually a few trees on it. The interesting place with the gate is at the narrow back! You are inside a walled area here and you have to have the courage to ignore some clear prohibition signs. The place itself is already quite spooky, so staying there inevitably creates a rather unpleasant feeling. But in this isolation, you are unlikely to experience any trouble. There is no functioning or continuous surveillance. Unfortunately, of course, you cannot be completely sure.

There is now a high bridge with stairs (with a rail for bikes on the edge) for hikers, the pub has closed (probably permanently?) and looks in need of renovation.

A fascinating spot, even idyllic in parts. The only thing that is off-putting is the flat middle of the village with the simple parking lot and the run-down building that serves as a "restaurant". Cars are not allowed here, cyclists have problems with the multi-level bridge, and hikers are treated to an exciting forest and lake landscape behind it.
