To commemorate the 600th anniversary of Eulenspiegel's death, the Mölln sculptor Karlheinz Goedtke created the bronze figure of the jester in 1950 to crown the fountain next to Kirchberg. This popular depiction of the jester has become a symbol of the town. Goedtke also created the bronze relief of the poet George Bernard Shaw next to the fountain. Shaw was named an honorary Eulenspiegel by the town in 1950. However, he misunderstood Mölln's offer and declared himself an "honorary citizen," which the town council subsequently approved. People often meet at the Eulenspiegel fountain for a souvenir photo. The mischievous figure is particularly polished in two places – there's a reason for this: Anyone who rubs Till's thumb and toe simultaneously while making a wish will be lucky. The Hevenbruch has been a nature reserve in Schleswig-Holstein since April 2003. It covers 173 hectares, is almost entirely forested (97%), and is embedded in the "Stormarn Terminal Moraine Area" of the East Holstein hill country. The purpose of the reserve is to permanently preserve the natural environment in this area in its entirety. In particular, the undisturbed natural development of geological and biological processes in the forests is to be allowed to continue, also for documentation purposes in natural sciences and forestry. No forestry interventions whatsoever take place on the entire forest area of the Hevenbruch! A visit to the bison in Fredeburg is a special natural experience, especially when the herd has had offspring of little calves who are happily conquering their world. Bison are the largest land mammals in Europe that almost went extinct many years ago! The district hunters give them a new home with the district forestry companies. Take the time and draw strength from encountering these unique animals. It's worth it, especially a detour into the beautiful surroundings. The enclosure is located right on the side of the path and there is no entry fee. You can simply walk past it in a relaxed manner and watch the impressive bison.
