The 24 "water jumps" in the Ludwigslust Canal in the Ludwigslust Palace Park are really worth seeing and it is worth walking the path through the beautiful palace park to get here. The water jumps are powered exclusively by the water gradient. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Ludwigslust_Schlosspark_24_Wasserspr%C3%BCnge.JPG

The Ludwigslust hunting star was laid out west of his hunting lodge by order of Christian Ludwig II in the 1730s. The avenues lead through damp areas, such as cracks and scours with alder growth, and drier clumps with mostly coniferous wood. The star with its avenues has a north-south extension of approx. 5 km and an east-west extension of approx. 6 km. When Friedrich the Pious decided to relocate his residence from Schwerin to his father's remote hunting lodge "Ludwigs-Lust", he first had the canal system built (1756-1760): 28 km long from the Stör to the Rögnitz, at 14 m Gradient. The masterpiece of the cascades was created directly in front of the former hunting lodge. From there the canal with fountains ("water jumps") and waterfalls goes through the forest and uses the former paternal hunting path that led to the hunting star of the "14 avenues" as a route. Since then, the canal system has shaped the unique character of the castle park. The stone bridge was built in 1780 by court architect J.J.Busch in place of an older wooden bridge. In 1980 a falling beech tree destroyed the bridge and jewelry vase; However, through persistent citizen engagement, both could be restored. The ramparts on both sides of the canal up to the fountain called "Mönch" were renewed in 2014 with lawn benches, staircases and rows of trees, as has been handed down on old engravings. https://www.stadtludwigslust.de/kultur-und-tourismus/sehenswertes-00001-00001/schlosspark/

The Ludwigsluster Jagdstern was laid out west of his hunting lodge in the 1830s by order of Christian Ludwig II. The avenues lead through damp areas, such as quarries and pools with alder vegetation, and drier clumps with predominantly coniferous wood. With its avenues, the star has a north-south extension of approx. 5 km and an east-west extension of approx. 6 km. In the closer star area around the island, moist to wet forest areas predominate; in the wider star area, on the other hand, the meadow areas increase. These humid lowlands are rich in game. The avenues were designed as unrolled hunting dams with drainage ditches on both sides. In 1756 Duke Friedrich tied the Ludwigsluster Canal in the Jagdstern. Large parts of the alder forest are now valuable biotopes that enjoy legal protection. Today, near-natural forestry adapts to these conditions. The city of Ludwigslust has created an educational forest trail in this area. https://www.stadtludwigslust.de/natur-und-erendung/rund-um-natur/

The spaciously designed palace square is dominated by the basin's cascades, created between 1780 and 1785 by the Bohemian sculptor Rudolf Kaplunger. These sandstone cascades replaced the original wooden cascade. The figurative decorations represent the river gods of the Rögnitz and the Stör. The Ludwigslust Canal was built between 1756 and 1760 as a 26 km long connecting axis, connecting these two rivers and enabling the Baroque water features. In 2008, the cascade underwent its first comprehensive renovation, and now not only the cascade but also the figures literally shine in new splendor. The water features are not only worth seeing in summer; on cold winter days, the watercourses become icy works of art. The Palace Square is also adorned with several beautiful half-timbered buildings, the monument to Frederick Francis I, and the "Old Guardhouse," built as a guardhouse and detention center. From here, you can enjoy one of the city's most beautiful views: from the palace to the Cascades and further to the City Church. Situated in a straight line between the palace and the City Church is the newly designed memorial to the victims of the Wöbbelin concentration camp, with the cube designed by Herbert Bartholomäus as the central object of the memorial. https://www.ludwigslust.de/kultur-und-tourismus/sehenswertes-00001-00001/schlossplatz-und-kaskaden/

Directly opposite the castle, from the main street, it is a nice mood for the castle.

The castle is being successively restored, thus expanding the exhibition more and more. The already open rooms (a little third) are really worth seeing and worked great. To relax, you can also settle down in the café in the hunting room and look at the castle park.

"Ludwigslust Castle is a classicist ensemble of a castle with outbuildings and a landscaped garden in the town of the same name in southwestern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It was from 1763 to 1837 main residence of the (Grand) Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The large-scale facility with the castle building as the center and the Hofkirche as an architectural counterweight go back to the core preserved and designed by Johann Friedrich Künnecke facility hunting lodge Klenow with its surrounding gardens and was later expanded by the architect Johann Joachim Busch. The castle and the church are integrated into a planned city whose main street leads to the Schlossplatz. Together with the city and the garden area, the complex forms a complete ensemble that is unique in Mecklenburg. Ludwigslust is therefore often referred to as Mecklenburg Versailles or, more rarely, as Sanssouci of the North. - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Ludwigslust
