Like the Hubertussee and the Wolfsee, the Börnersee is a former clay pit that was created between 1850 and 1889 for the adjacent brickworks. They are visible relics of the Borgsdorf brickworks history, which ended around 1910. The Börnersee was created in 1850 from the clay pit for the first Borgsdorf brickworks not far from the Birkenwerder brickworks. The need for clay bricks arose due to devastating local fires and the expansion of the city of Berlin, among other things. Brick production in the town was stopped as early as 1910. After 1920, the Börner family (who gave it its name) acquired the lake and its surroundings, fenced everything in and designed shore areas for recreation. Access was restricted to selected residents. There were orchards, a riverside path with tables/seats and two fish ponds. After 1945, the fence fell into disrepair and residents were able to use the lake without hindrance. From 1970 onwards, it became the "property of the people". The natural bathing areas remained and the lake became a fishing club water. In winter, it was often an ice skating paradise. Since 2015, the lake has been gradually renovated and made available to residents. Source: https://hohen-neuendorf.de/de/stadt-leben/stadtrundgang/boernersee

In 1806, French troops passed through Klein-Ziethen, Wolfslake and Neu-Vehlefanz on their way to Poland and East Prussia, plundering and burning. At this time, some peasants tried to resist by ambushing and killing individual Frenchmen. The story of the forester Reckin, who lived in the forester's lodge at Krämerpfuhl, has been handed down here. Hidden in a hollow oak tree on the old Heerstraße (today the old Poststraße), which led from Berlin to Hamburg, he ambushed French soldiers marching individually or in small groups and shot some of them. At some point the following soldiers noticed the gun smoke rising from the hollow oak and shot the forester Reckin. Residents of the surrounding villages buried him about 300 paces from the oak. Today a boulder with the inscription "Reckin's Grave" covers this spot. It is customary for anyone passing by the burial site to place a small twig on the stone.
