The Lech is a right tributary of the Danube. The 256 km long river originates in Vorarlberg in the Hochtannberg region at the confluence of the Spullerbach and Formarinbach streams in the Tannläger valley. It flows through Tyrol and southern Bavaria, where it empties into the Danube. Shortly before the Austrian-German border, it joins the Vils river, forms the artificial Lechfall near Füssen, and crosses Swabia and Upper Bavaria on its way. The Auensee near Unterbergen, south of Augsburg, is an idyllic bathing lake characterized by clear, refreshing water and picturesque surroundings. The lake is nestled in the Lechau forest and offers a small island that enriches the landscape. Leisure activities: • Swimming: The Auensee is a popular place for swimming and sunbathing. The lawns invite you to relax. Please note that there are no official sanitary facilities or catering facilities. • Nudist area: An area for nudists has been established on the northwest shore. • Hiking and cycling: The area around the lake offers well-developed paths that are ideal for walks and bike rides. A popular route leads from Unterbergen along the Lech and the Auensee.

The rail parts and sleepers used are from the former peat railway. The meMOORial is reminiscent of intensive peat mining as heating or insulating material and for locomotive lighting.
