We set off in February 2024, the peak season for Buddhists, one day before the full moon at 1:00 a.m. in order to be at the summit in time for sunrise. Unfortunately we didn't make it and didn't get to the top until around 7:30 a.m. The reason was by no means a lack of fitness, but rather thousands of Buddhists who all want to visit the Buddha's footprint. With the summit in sight, we had to join an eternal queue. We finally reached the top and the view was definitely worth it

It's best to start from Nallathanniya around 2am. You should be at the summit by 5:30 a.m. at the latest to secure a spot heading east. The sun rises around 6:20 a.m. You should avoid the weekend or a day near the full moon, as it is usually too crowded and you may not reach the summit at sunrise - due to. Traffic jam in front of the summit.

Nice hike, but extremely overcrowded and the park entrance fee is outrageously expensive at €39!

A narrow path leads through the tea plantations directly to the Lover's Leap waterfall. The water masses fall from a height of 30 meters. You can climb up to the waterfall.
