These fascinating geological formations, also known as scours, are a special feature of this river. Their formation is due to an erosive process caused by the turbulent flow of the water and the sedimentary material it carries. Irregularities in the riverbed, such as small depressions, bumps, or harder rock inclusions, can cause the water to swirl. These initial eddies create a rotating water movement with increased flow velocity and a grinding effect directly on the riverbed.

A wonderful path above the Saale, very interesting the Bundsandstein. At Schillers Höhe a quiet place to linger. 😄

Something needs to be done to the railing otherwise recommended place.

Cool rest area at Schiller's Höhe. Pure peace and the sound of the Saale. Here you can clear your head👍🏻💪🏻🤓😃😁🌤

The tower was repaired by RSB and has been open again since December 2023.

Always a worthwhile hike. It's a shame that the observation tower is still not open after almost a year.
