We were one of the first groups in the gap on July 18, 2024, as there is still a lot of old snow this season and the hut owner had previously advised against it. Conclusion: it works well, the chain is free of snow, crampons are helpful. The newly built steps make the north descent much more pleasant.

When we visited in June 2024, the path was heavily marked by the effects of winter. Some parts had slipped and were badly torn up by fallen rocks. It was still possible to walk it, but it was a little more difficult than usual - it's steep either way!

That's right, the view just before the Christlhof is great. You can see St.Leonhard and the Jaufenpass at the top. That's the compensation for the effort up here.
