Very beautiful. Very steep in places, but nothing compared to Austria. The descent would probably be much more enjoyable. At least it's over relatively quickly.

Beautiful, safe ridge path

Not for leisurely cyclists. Really not. As beautiful as the Slovenian side may be. Ride from Italy. You should also be safe on the descent on the Austrian side. There's a lot of traffic overall, even during the week. If you really want to give it a go... Go for it 😅 but not for a leisurely ride.

The ride from the Wurzen Pass towards Villach is truly a death pass. Several downhill sections at 18% gradients are required. Extreme caution is required with loaded trekking bikes. We had to take a break because the brakes started to smell. The car brakes smelled too. CAUTION!!!!

The potholed road on the Carinthian side is largely history, making it more enjoyable than ever. You just have to be able to handle the incline (20% in places) and the traffic. A photo of the tank at the top is a must. ;-)

I rode down the Slovenian side. It's a very scenic ride and rewards you with fantastic views.

The exit to Carinthia has been newly paved, so it is highly recommended!

A nice climb, much easier than the Carinthian side. The latter is more recommended as a descent. The asphalt has recently been repaired, so the descent on the Carinthian side is now also very pleasant (albeit steep).
