Turracher Höhe Here you stand at 1,763 meters above sea level on the Styrian side of Lake Turracher See. The border between Styria and Carinthia runs right through the middle of the lake. Tourism has been here since the end of the 19th century. The region is located within the UNESCO Nockberge Biosphere Reserve. With Turracher Höhe, you've chosen a place in the sun. The climate here is unique in Austria. The forests support the regenerating, gentle climate (high air purity), and the altitude ensures a stimulating climate (stimulating the human metabolism).

This is the best place to start the 3 Lakes hike. There are enough parking spaces available. The path is well signposted and is nice to walk.

Important: be aware that this is a 500m climb with a gradient of more than 20%! This is almost impossible to drive while sitting (you almost have to drive in aero position so that the front wheel doesn't lift off). At the top the mountain becomes a little more bearable. So apart from the 20%, it's a very steep but consistent climb that demands everything from you. Unfortunately it's a ski area at the top and there's no really worthwhile view. But you have a very long descent into the Murr Valley ahead of you

I like driving steep ramps, I love such challenges! If you like it even steeper: Hirschbichl/Lofer 30%, Passo Forcella (Friuli) 28%, Alpe Fuori 32% (total: 5.5km with 1200m elevation gain...) to name just a few...
