Beautiful gardens. While the entrance fee is €7.50 per person, it's not free, but the grounds are extremely well-maintained, completely litter-free, and clean. While there's no catering, there's a decent coffee machine in the entrance area that provides a decent enough cappuccino for €2.00. Restroom facilities are bonfortionable. Numerous less kitschy souvenirs—apparently aimed at "garden lovers"—are available, as well as food items with a "farm shop" feel.

At the top of Tankenberg is a small chapel. From there, you can enjoy a sublime view of the valley, which is rather unusual for the Netherlands.

Since March 2025, a new shoot has grown in the remains of the trunk. (see photo)

The Kristalbad is a unique nature reserve between Hengelo and Enschede. It has multiple functions: it purifies water, acts as a water buffer and is an ecological connection zone. Purified sewage water from Enschede flows via the Elsbeek to the Kristalbad, where it is further purified by reeds and basins. This system helps prevent flooding in Hengelo and ensures that water remains available for longer during dry periods. In addition, the Kristalbad is a paradise for flora and fauna. The area combines water, reeds and tranquility, which allows all kinds of plants and animals to find a place there. The young forest around the Kristalbad is growing and will become increasingly diverse and valuable in the future. Various network walks from Wandelnetwerk Twente pass through the area.
