There's nothing like the Dutch North Cape

You have arrived at the northernmost point of the Netherlands! The imposing work of art 'The Gate of Heaven' marks the precise spot. From here you have an unobstructed view of the water and the endless sky above the Wadden Sea. Next to it is a bench to rest. Enjoy the view.

On the west side of the Schildmeer lies Tetjehorn, an area that was already known centuries ago. According to stories, there was once a stronghold here where a robber knight lived. After his death, his wife, Taitjemui, took over the plundering. She was known as ruthless and terrorized the lake for years. It is said that her ghost still wanders around in bad weather. Since 2000, Tetjehorn has been part of the nature reserve 't Roegwold. It is now the largest reed marsh in Groningen, rich in birds such as the bittern, bearded tit, porcelain chicken and even the sea eagle.

This is watchtower "Biesterwied" in the Tetjehorn nature reserve, a nature reserve established in the early 2000s and the northernmost sub-area of 't Roegwold. It is the largest reed marsh in Groningen and is home to a multitude of birds, including bittern, bearded male and china grouse. feels at home in the reed marsh and every now and then even the imposing white-tailed eagle is seen here! from here a walking route through Tetjehorn starts. Noordkaap is the northernmost point of the mainland of the Netherlands. Artwork 'De Hemelpoort' marks the exact spot. From here you have an unobstructed view of the water and the infinite sky above the Wadden.
