The Ruurlo mountain biking trail, located in the Boswachterij Ruurlo within the Gelderland province of the Netherlands, offers a 13.5-kilometer loop featuring approximately 67 meters of elevation gain. The trail comprises 20 different singletracks, with notable sections like the "Zeven Heuveltjes" area, which presents unexpected elevation changes, and the "rabattenbos," where riders cross 12 bridges over deep ditches within a 200-meter stretch. The trail is part of the MTB network Achterhoek and connects with nearby routes in Vorden, Borculo, and Lochem, allowing for extended rides up to 120 kilometers. The route is marked with blue signs displaying the international MTB symbol (a triangle above two circles) and is best ridden counterclockwise (CCW). Riders can stay updated on trail conditions and developments through the MTB Achterhoek Facebook page.

Very nice trail, was a lot of fun

The Lochemse Berg and neighbor the Kale Berg are remnants of the penultimate ice age. When the land ice pushed up the land, a slightly sloping landscape was created. The mountains are now covered with forests where you can wander endlessly. Anyone who has an eye for it will see special residents, such as deer, squirrels, foxes, woodpeckers and the kingfisher butterfly. The Netherlands has 5 species of woodpeckers, which stay all year round. You can all spot the black, the green, the great spotted, the lesser spotted and the middle spotted woodpecker. It is wonderful walking on the mountain. From the hills you have a beautiful view over the rolling landscape. The Belvedere tower is a striking watchtower located in Lochem. The tower is located on the Lochemse Berg, a hilly area that is part of the Northeast Twente National Landscape Park. The Belvedere tower offers a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. The Belvedere Tower was designed by the well-known Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers and was built in 1893. Cuypers is also responsible for the design of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and Amsterdam Central Station, making the tower an architecturally important heritage site. The tower has a height of approximately 30 meters and is strategically located on the Lochemse Berg. From the top of the tower you have a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape, including the vast forests, rolling hills and farmlands of the Achterhoek. Besides offering a panoramic view, the Belvedere tower also has historical significance. The tower was built as a monument in honor of Queen Emma of the Netherlands, and her initials "E.R." are found in the masonry of the tower.

The stormy weather was relatively easy to handle and everything was great to ride. Simply a fun ride

What a beautiful course. It's hard, it's technical, a lot of steep climbing and some very nice country roads at the end to catch a breath. One of the most beautiful courses in the Netherlands if you ask me!
