The "Three Capuchins" is a Gallo-Roman rock relief that can be found along the Vaubansteig dream loop in Saarland. This relief, carved in red sandstone, originally shows three figures, two of which are still recognizable today: Nantosuelta, the protective goddess of house and farm, and Sucellus, the god of miners and blacksmiths. The name "Three Capuchins" came about in the Middle Ages, when the figures were thought to be Capuchin monks because of their clothing.

The “Grott” or the “Raufels” Surprisingly and quite spectacularly, this bizarre-looking gray limestone rock appears at the edge of the path in the geological environment characterized by red sandstone. This striking rock formation was created in the same way as the Sudelfels. The highly calcareous and carbon dioxide-rich water of the higher-lying "Lehrborn" coming from the Lower Muschelkalk created highly porous deposits of calcite over the course of many millennia. Abzuleiten ist das Wort vom mittelhochdeutschen „graht“, was „Graben“ oder „Schlucht“ bedeutet. Die imposanteste Grät ist die Pastorsgrät. Dieser durch die Erosion des Wassers über Jahrtausende geschaffene tiefe Einschnitt schließt den obersten Teil des Mittleren Buntsandsteins auf und zeigt ein fast vollständiges Profil des oberen Buntsandsteins. Deutlich sind der lithologische Aufbau und die typischen Sedimentationsprozesse zu erkennen. Der Name „Pastorsgrät“ erinnert an ein tragisches Unglück, welches sich hier im Jahre 1857 ereignet hat. Damals stürzte der Pastor von Itzbach, Hubert Hoffmann, auf dem Nachhauseweg bei Dunkelheit in die tiefe Schlucht und erlitt tödliche Verletzungen. Was war geschehen? Am frühen Morgen des 20. Tufa Staircase The small stream flowing down the valley along the Idesbach Trail reveals a geological rarity. A closer look reveals a fragile, stepped limestone structure. This tufa staircase was created by the water from the higher-lying Leitersteiner Spring. It extends horizontally for about 120 meters and vertically for 15 meters, covering both the lower part of the Lower Muschelkalk and the Voltzien Sandstone of the Upper Buntsandstein. The spring water originates from the Lower Muschelkalk and is very calcareous. It contains 1133 mg of CaCO3 per liter. As it emerges from the spring, it experiences a release of pressure and simultaneous warming. This causes the carbon dioxide (CO2), which is also dissolved in the water, to escape. This shifts the chemical equilibrium toward the limestone, which initially floats in the water in the form of tiny particles and quickly adheres to obstacles in the watercourse. As a result, limestone crusts form as the spring flows, encasing stones, plant fragments, twigs, and leaves in the streambed.
