8월 19, 2024, The Cheesewring
This landmark is located next to the Cheesewring Quarry (which provided the granite cladding for the structure of Tower Bridge in London) and is surrounded by other granite formations. In the late 19th century, this landmark was threatened with destruction due to its proximity to blasting operations, but was saved through local activism.

Three beautiful Neolithic or Early Bronze Age stone circles arranged in a line, a unique grouping in England. The Hurlers Stone Circles are probably the best examples of ceremonial circles in the South West. https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/hurlers-stone-circles/

The Hurlers are three stone circles on the edge of Bodmin Moor. Legend has it that these were Cornish Hurler players, caught out on a Sunday and punished. They are thought to date to between 2,100 & 1,500 BCE.

The Cheeswring is a granite tor on the south-east edge of Bodmin Moor. It's a naturally formed structure, although the local legends say it was formed in a contest between giants and saints. Granite from the quarry below was used to clad Tower Bridge.

Brown Willy at 420 m is the highest point in Cornwall. The rocky granite summit offers great views across Bodmin and over Rough Tor out to sea.

The ascent is ok, easier than I feared after some reports. If you follow the path and are sure-footed, no problem. Sturdy shoes are recommended. Have fun, the view of the moor and the sea is awesome.

6월 21, 2021, Kilmar Tor
This impressive granite tor sits at 1,299 feet high (396 m) on the rugged edge of Bodmin Moor. This region's main industry used to be mining and the flanks of the tor are littered with its remnants including a disused railway to the south. You can clamber atop the granite if you're comfortable doing so and the weather is conducive. Take care to avoid slipping and don't leave your camera at the bottom: the views are wonderful.

The highest point in Cornwall and a UK designated Marilyn. I think the best way to go up Brown Willy is to do a loop and come in from the south to make a nice 8-mile (13 km) hike of it and include Rough Tor on the way back. Otherwise do it the shorter way from Rough Tor car park. A great little hill to do. Route Here: https://www.komoot.com/tour/361453169

Britain has tens of thousands of stone circles (the largest being Avebury, which encircles an entire Wiltshire village), but the trio of circles known as the Hurlers is one of our favourites to walk to. High on Bodmin Moor, near the village of Minions, the three circles are thought to be all that remains of a group of boys who went out to play the traditional game of hurling one Sunday, instead of going to church – and were turned to stone for their sacrilege. According to local legend, it’s impossible to count the same number of stones twice.

Off the beaten track, yet still on the path. That's how you could describe a hike in Bodwin Moor. A worthwhile loop leads from Minion past the stone circles, up to the Cheesewring, and then on to Sharp Tor. From there, it's a direct route to Kilmar Tor. The most famous tor in Bodmin Moor is the Cheesewring. Unlike the stone circles, it was formed naturally by millennia of erosion. A precise route description is only partially necessary. It's usually sufficient to simply follow a direct line toward the next waypoint. You should only be careful around the grazing cows on the raised moor and pass them with respect and at a suitable distance.

Off the beaten track and still on the way. So you could describe a tour on the Kilmar Tor. A rewarding round leads from Minion coming past the stone rings, up on the Cheesewring and further on the Sharp goal. From there it goes in direct line to the Kilmar gate. Detailed directions are required only conditionally. Normally, it is sufficient to simply orient yourself in the direction of the next waypoint. Careful you should only be with the grazing cows on the moor and this pass with respect and appropriate distance.
