From the Meikensbos you have a beautiful view of the Poelberg near Tielt, a 45-metre-high hill with a rich history and a striking rural character. At the top is the Poelbergmolen, a windmill from 1726 that is a protected heritage site, and a former monastery of the Sisters of the Faith with a Lourdes grotto and a historic procession from 1938. Since the restoration of the monastery complex in 2011, the building has served as a visitor centre and tourist information point. The Poelberg, with its steep climb that challenges many cyclists, is, together with the surrounding Meikensbossen, a popular place for nature and heritage lovers.

As #Els wrote earlier: the vast majority of the forest is still quite young. It is therefore noticeable that there are still many young trees and 'lots' of planting have been marked. Already a charming forest, but it promises that it will only become more beautiful and valuable in the coming decades. Tip: With the Baliekouter in Wakken just a stone's throw away, you can make a beautiful loop between two beautiful pieces of nature.

Absolutely beautiful area of 44 hectares of forest, with three ponds with remarkable names, of which the largest, the castle pond, is called "'t Zeetje". In the second pond, Ardoyevijver, there is a headland/peninsula with a bench where the view is beautiful and it is quiet to sit. The third pond and surroundings are managed as a nature reserve. On the edge of it there is a birdwatching hut.

Beautiful drift between the castle of Olsene and the Maria cave. The avenue is protected as a landscape monument because of the imposing oaks and beech trees. Motorized traffic is not allowed. E-bikes that cycle slower than 25 km/h are 'cycling' and therefore allowed.

On the border between Tielt and Dentergem lies a new tourist-recreational centre on and around the Poelberg. The Meikensbossen can be found at the foot of the hill and is approximately 63 hectares in size. You can walk pleasantly through a varied landscape. Old and young forest, avenues, hayfields and meadows. Here and there a pond. The view of the Poelbergmolen completes the picture.
