The old name of the Meolo river is Pero. This is why, in these parts, river and place names blend together

The sources of the Meolo river are about 200 m away. from the bridge, unfortunately it was not possible to approach them because they were fenced off. It originates east of Breda di Piave, in the Campagne area, and flows for about twenty kilometers in the provinces of Treviso and Venice, crossing, among others, San Biagio di Callalta and Monastery of Treviso. At the town of the same name, the river bifurcates: the new main axis, maintaining the name of the Meolo river, heads south and flows shortly afterwards into the Vallio; the historic course, called the Meolo flowway, moves towards the south-east and its waters flow partly into the Colatore Principale reclamation canal and partly, by means of a structure that bypasses the previous watercourse, into the Fossetta canal. This situation is the result of the reclamation that affected the Lower Piave and was completed in the 1930s. Along its course there are country residences built by Venetian families between the 15th and the 19th centuries as well as the former Abbey of Santa Maria di Pero

The Grotta di San Girolamo is one of over 60 caves found on Montello, which have always been used as a shelter. According to tradition, during the dominion of the Serenissima in the Middle Ages, this natural shelter was used by the hermit Giovanni da Fassa who dedicated himself in solitude to the cult of St. Jerome. Regardless of the legends, it seems that the settlement in the cave of San Girolamo was already registered in the XIII century. The Grotta di San Girolamo is a karst cave, therefore with a typical conformation of the Montello area. Along the walls of the cave you can see hand-dug niches, now empty of content. It is located near Via Luigi Lama (intake IV), in the area called Valle delle Tre Fonti, a particularly humid and verdant place.

The Busa delle Rane is a small reservoir of karst type with an ecosystem characteristic of wetlands. It hosts various plant organisms (aquatic plants) and animals such as amphipods, isopods and various types of larvae. The name derives from the large presence of frogs such as the Esculenta and the Temporaria, toads such as the Bufo Bufo and water snakes such as the Natrix Natrix and the Natrix Tasellata. If you are lucky, from the roof terrace you can admire wild boars and roe deer that go there to drink, since it is one of the rare (more or less) permanent pools present in this area.
