Mythical place, with a great view, with an unusual statue of Christ. Also suggestive is the plaque below.

Splendid excursion destination of simple/medium difficulty. For those who want to put in a little effort, it can be done on foot, for those who just want to spend a good day in nature, they can take the COLBRICON EXPRESS cable car which allows you to skip the most tiring part and only do the last stretch ( less tiring) to reach the lakes and refuge.

The refuge stands in a splendid position near the two Colbricon lakes. The panorama ranges from the peaks of the Pale di San Martino to the peaks of Lagorai. It can be reached with an easy walk from Passo Rolle (Malga Rolle) or with a slightly more demanding itinerary from Malga Ces.

The road over the Rolle Pass is one of the oldest in the Dolomites. Unlike most other roads in this area, this pass road was completed in 1872. But a few decades earlier, around 1820, the Rolle Pass was already passable. However, this road did not meet the requirements, which is why the road in the valley section was completely rebuilt from 1840 to 1865 and the actual pass road from 1870 to 1872. This road also no longer met the requirements during the First World War, as an important supply route to the front led via the Rolle Pass. The necessary expansion was soon started, but could not be completed until 1919. The connection is now in need of renovation again. While the south ramp has recently been modernized, the north ramp still has numerous tight and confusing curves and bends. The northern ramp of the pass road has 12 hairpin bends and the southern ramp has almost 30 hairpin bends. The Rolle Pass appears to have been unknown, or at least unused, in the Stone Age, as finds from this period are still missing here. Ancient hunters who used the Rolle Pass route preferably crossed the mountain ridge at a different location, namely the directly adjacent, 1,908 m high Colbricon Pass, located west of the Rolle Pass. A road that soon turns into a path now leads to this crossing, which has some Stone Age sites. This pass has been walked since at least the Paleolithic period, and the hunters left behind a lot of 'trash'. During excavations in 1971/72, several resting places for Paleolithic hunters were found on both sides of the crossing, especially at the nearby Colbricon lakes. The Colbricon Pass was also used in later times and even had a mule track. In the Middle Ages, the Rolle Pass probably had some importance for supra-regional traffic, certainly also for trade, especially in Venice. From around 1200, the Hospice of San Martino and on the west side the Hospice of Paneveggio were available to look after travelers. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passo_Rolle
