Why is Carlsgrün also called Caesarania? In the spring of 1939, the monkey "Caesar" escaped from his owner, Ernst Hütter, owner of the "Mauxion" chocolate factory in Saalfeld. The monkey was spotted in Carlsgrün and captured by the residents. The mayor of Carlsgrün informed the owner of the whereabouts of his exotic pet using the only telephone in the village at the time. The chocolate manufacturer picked up his "Caesar" in Carlsgrün and distributed chocolate to the children as a thank you. Since then, Carlsgrün has been nicknamed "Caesarania." The monkey sculpture was made of linden wood by Hannes Neubert in 2013.

If you plan to stop for lunch, you should make a reservation in advance, as the small inn is very busy.
