Below the summer residence of King Maximilian II, Hohenschwangau Castle, lies Schwansee Park. Picturesquely framed by the Kalvarienberg and Schwarzenberg mountains, it is now a local recreation area for guests and locals. However, those interested will discover a garden architectural gem that is second to none: the royal castle park of Hohenschwangau. After Crown Prince Maximilian, later King Maximilian II, completed Hohenschwangau Castle, he acquired land in Rohrachfilz below to create a castle park. The first plans for the park were drawn up in 1837 by the landscape architect Carl August Sckell, whose uncle Ludwig Sckell designed the English Garden in Munich. After Sckell's death, Peter Joseph Lenné took over this work and developed a castle park based on the English model. Beautifully situated, with many swimming areas and a view of Neuschwanstein Castle.

Here you should not enter the area outside the hiking trail, there is a footpath to the lake, but there is also a sign saying that you should please stay on the path.
