This is the shelter at the forester's house near the Salmbacher Passage, which is a great way to get to France.

This neat shelter, which is also in the shade of a tree, is located directly on the road and still offers a very good view of the beautiful landscape and/or protection from the weather.

There is something special about this place on the great German river. The access is very good and why? Tourism experts have the past to thank for this. During the Cold War (50 to 80 years of the last century) the road was developed as a NATO road with the aim of installing floating bridges across the Rhine in the event of defense. The old flood hill, as the Auer people call it, is of course older and was used in the past as a storage facility for flood protection materials. Today, visitors to this beautiful spot can use it as a place to park in the rain and observe the landscape. Here the Illinger Altrhein unites with the Rhine. A lot has been done here recently for the bird world. The tip of the Illinger Rheinauen was formed into an island through excavation. This means the birds have a protected area that cannot be disturbed by tourists on foot.

The shelter has a bench in front of it. Unfortunately, it's usually occupied if it's not, just enjoy. At the point to the left there are usually many swans. The Rhine is very wide at the point.

Very nice place to rest (just outside the cottage) - even with a guest book, the "Stuttpferch-Häuschen-Buch"!
