자우어강은 라인강의 약 70km 길이의 지류입니다. 독일-프랑스 국경 근처의 팔츠 숲에서 발원합니다. 강을 따라 북부 보주를 통과하며 독일과 프랑스 간의 국경을 부분적으로 형성합니다. 그 후 알자스를 가로질러 뮌슈하우젠 근처에서 라인강으로 흘러 들어갑니다. 자우어강의 유역 면적은 약 800km²이며 평균 유량은 초당 약 6m³입니다.

버드나무 덤불, 습지, 갈대밭 - 자우르 삼각주 자연 보호 구역은 독특한 풍경입니다! 1997년에 장관급 법령으로 자연 보호 구역으로 지정되었으며 486헥타르가 보호되었습니다. 조류학, 식물학, 경관 측면에서 매우 특별한 지역이며, 라인강의 범람수가 여전히 퍼질 수 있는 프랑스의 마지막 지역 중 하나입니다.

The former Wissembourg–Lauterbourg railway line is now a popular cycle path, the Lautertal Cycle Path. It runs along a large stretch of the old railway line and is largely paved and car-free. The cycle path connects the two towns of Wissembourg and Lauterbourg and offers a beautiful way to explore the countryside between the two towns.

This is where the Sauer River, coming from the Vosges Mountains, flows into the Rhine. The estuary delta is a large floodplain with a wide variety of amphibians and birds – protected since 1997.

The Seltz-Plittersdorf cable ferry crosses the Rhine using only the power of the current, without an engine. Commissioned in 1945, it was modernized in 1998 with an aluminum structure and an eco-friendly system combining solar panels and paddle wheels. It can carry up to 70 passengers, 28 bicycles, and 6 cars. The crossing is free.
