Bjørnskinnfjellet stands out as a prominent peak in the southern part of the Andøya island. The trail leads you up through birch trees and steep grassy slopes before reaching the rocky summit. From the top, you are rewarded with a panoramic view of the Risøysundet strait and the jagged mountains around. It is a peaceful alternative to the busier hikes further north on the island.

Nonstinden is a minor summit that you'll pass en route to Måtind. The gradients are relatively forgiving and from here you have various options of where to head next.

We recommend climbing Matind from the south, as you have a wonderful view of Høyvika Beach for long stretches of the hike and you can make the hike a circular route with a detour to the beach.

You can consider the Nonstind (369m) as a last stop before you continue walking to the top of the Måtind (408m).

From Baugtua it is a nice and easy climb over Nonstind to Måtinden. You get a nice panoramic view as a reward before you either start the way back or walk towards Bleik. We chose the latter, even though it meant 2.5 miles (4 km) on the road between the end and the start of the walk. Halfway we were spontaneously offered a lift by a super friendly local.

Beautiful place with history, bunker complex also on the mountain - just deliberately not in the pictures... it spoils the mood a little but the panorama is fantastic! Steep short climb, not always well trodden paths!

Instead of doing a round trip as suggested, where you have to walk 4 km back along the road to Bleik, you can go down from Måtind to the sea. You get into the small bay that you can see to the right of Måtind.

Nice view and from up here just a easy walk to the other peaks.
