The Heistergem retention basin (nature reserve near the Eeksken on the border between Lebbeke, Buggenhout and Opwijk) along the Vondelbeek was redesigned by the Flemish Environmental Agency (VMM) in the course of 2013 and 2014. The holding basin at Fochelstraat consists of two parts, east and west of Fochelstraat, and was dug along the Vondelbeek. This watercourse, which is also called the Brabantse Beek, flows from Opwijk first along the eastern holding basin and then meanders under the Fochelstraat and thus crosses the western part.
