8월 17, 2025, Schloss Bothmer
Bothmer Castle in Klütz is the largest Baroque palace complex in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. An architectural masterpiece with English flair and a fascinating history. The three-wing Baroque complex, with Anglo-Dutch influences, was built between 1726 and 1732 for Count Hans Caspar von Bothmer, advisor to the English king. The Festonallee – a linden avenue – is a magnificent garden monument. After the Second World War, the building was used as a retirement home in the GDR and reopened as a palace museum in 2015 after extensive renovation. A visit to Bothmer Castle is like a journey into the world of the 18th century – with a touch of London in northern Germany.

The festoon avenue of Bothmer Castle is one of the most famous sights in all of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. A stroll through the castle is a particularly impressive way to experience the interplay between baroque architecture and landscape planning. So don't miss the opportunity to walk through the 270-meter-long sunken path. When you then approach the castle grounds, the flanking trees initially only reveal the magnificent central axis of the main building. With each step, the field of vision expands bit by bit. When you finally reach the courtyard of honor, the splendor of the building can no longer be taken in at a glance. It is a prime example of baroque staging that still has its full effect after 300 years and makes a visit to Bothmer unforgettable at any time of year.

12월 22, 2024, Entrance Gate to Schloss Pötenitz
The beautiful entrance gate is practically directly in front of Pötenitz Castle. Pötenitz Castle is being completely renovated and converted into a castle hotel with a surrounding holiday complex. The innovative planning concept focuses on the renovation of the listed castle on the one hand and the construction of new, modern holiday properties on the other. This creates a combination of the preservation and at the same time the new beginning of a history.

Just four kilometers south of the Baltic Sea, Bothmer Castle is located in the middle of an idyllic park. It owes its existence to the adventurous life of one man: Count Hans Caspar von Bothmer. Having reached the peak of his career, the count lived in London - in the legendary 10 Downing Street. From there, he had the magnificent complex built in the Klützer Winkel from 1726 onwards, thus bringing a piece of England to Mecklenburg.

The museum is worth seeing. It tells very clearly not only the history of the castle but also that of Hans Caspar von Bothmer. The audio guide provides additional information to the texts on the panels in the rooms.

wow, I didn't expect to find such a great castle here. Very well maintained and well preserved. Unfortunately the park behind the castle was not open today (danger due to loose tree tops). The café in the castle and the castle shop are not to be missed.

Manor house (manor house, castle) Johannstorf In 1743, the two-storey brick building was built on the site of a former moated castle according to plans by master builder Rudolph Matthias Dallin. The client for the construction was the von Buchwald(t) family, whose ancestral seat had been Johannstorf since 1412. The eye-catcher is the central projection on the southwest side of the manor house with colossal pilasters, the portal crowning and the triangular gable decorated with a coat of arms. Inside, the spacious hall impresses with a double staircase that leads to the upper floor. In the garden room, wooden wall panels that reach up to the ceiling have been preserved; stucco ceilings, fireplaces and stoves, mirrors and textile wall coverings are also still there. In 1782, the Eckermann family acquired the estate and remained the owners until it was expropriated in 1945. After 1945, the manor house was mainly inhabited. The listed building has been privately owned since 1993, and the urgently needed renovation was a long time coming. Through a legal settlement between the town of Dassow and the owner, the town of Dassow has managed to at least partially start the renovation of the manor house. The outbuildings are continuing to deteriorate, as is the manor house. The moat has also unfortunately deteriorated. https://gutshaeuser.de/de/guts_herrenhaeuser/gutshaeuser_j/gutshaus_herrenhaus_schloss_johannstorf

On the first floor of the castle, the art gallery attracts holiday guests interested in art. Some rooms here also serve as accommodation for guests. Artists also live in the inner courtyard in the artist department @LabKalkhorst and you can look over their shoulders. Anyone who loves art will find their favorite place here. The castle was built between 1853 and 1874 in the neo-Gothic style, characterized by North German brick Gothic. Even until the early 2000s, modifications were made to adapt it to different usage needs. The castle is surrounded by a 13 hectare castle park which was designed in the style of an English landscape park. In 2002, the International Garden Trade Fair named the castle park the second most beautiful park in Germany. https://www.auf-nach-mv.de/reiseziel/a-schloss-kalkhorst

Great place to stop for a break. Delicious food and drinks in the Orangery. If you're in a hurry, you can buy something tasty from the fridge in the museum shop and sit on a bench in the castle park. There are many beautiful trees and benches in the park (free of charge) and you are allowed in with your dog. If you have more time, you can take a longer look around the beautiful museum shop. We weren't in the castle itself (dog).

Unfortunately, the castle was not accessible. The gate was locked, although according to the internet it should be open. Too bad. No other way to see the castle.

The Festonallee at Bothmer Castle is an avenue of lime trees, the trees of which have grown like trellises. Especially in spring it is a magical sight for the visitor when the trees have their fresh leaves. It is therefore no wonder that it is one of the most photographed avenues in northwest Mecklenburg.
