The idyllic village pond in Niendorf/Stecknitz is also used as a fire pond. A narrow hiking trail runs along the south bank, so you can easily walk around it with beautiful views. A bench invites you to take a rest. Unfortunately, the path is not shown on the Komoot map.

The beautiful little village of Niendorf an der Stecknitz, with its approximately 650 inhabitants, lies in the heart of the Duchy of Lauenburg district and, at 81 meters above sea level, sits atop the district's highest point. According to Wikipedia, there are 26 places named Niendorf (with "ie") and 14 (with "i"), but each one is unique, just like this one. The village was first documented in the Isfried Partition Treaty of 1194. Niendorf was a manor for a long time, but the Hanseatic city of Lübeck was the supreme ruler. Through the 1747 agreement in Hanover, the village fell to the Duchy of Lauenburg. The estate owners included the Scharpenberg family (in the Middle Ages and again around 1640), the Barons von Albedyll, and finally Maximilian Theodor Metzener, who sold the estate to the district in 1928. The rural municipality was also merged with the manor district in 1928. Niendorf was long a manorial estate, but the Hanseatic city of Lübeck was the ultimate ruler. In 1993, the village won the title of "Most Beautiful Village in the District of Herzogtum Lauenburg."
