The Boberger See is located in the middle of the Boberger Niederung nature reserve and was created in the 1930s by sand mining. With an area of almost eight hectares and a depth of up to eleven meters, it is a popular destination for bathers and nature lovers. While the northeast shore offers a bathing beach, the southwest shore is popular with nudists. Anglers also use the gravel lake.

Between Bergedorfer Straße and Billwerder Billdeich, in front of the Geesthang, lies the Boberger Niederung nature reserve recreation area close to the city with a glider airfield, hiking trails, swimming lakes, riding trails and lots of nature. The Bobberg dunes are well developed with paths and are therefore ideal for hiking tours; Parking spaces are located on the outskirts. The elongated dune landscape was created after the last ice age, when large amounts of sand were deposited in the Elbe glacial valley due to meltwater. Large parts of the sand masses have been excavated over the last 150 years, for example for embankments in the areas of Hammerbrook and Billbrook and the Hamburg-Bergedorf railway line. The large swimming lake was created around 1960 when sand was removed to build the A1 motorway.
