The lake was named after the nearby town of Stotel and was created during the construction of the federal highway 27 to the west. It is approximately 1 km long in a west-east direction, 30 hectares in size and up to 14.5 m deep.[1] The surrounding area is characterized by the Geest in the north and the Stoteler Moor in the south. Excess water resulting from precipitation is drained through the Hahnenknoop-Hetthorn Moor Canal into an oxbow river of the Lune. Bathing operations are monitored by the DLRG local group in Hagen, for which a surveillance station is available.[3] There are also fishing areas, RV parking and a hotel with a restaurant. The lake is also the starting point of its own hiking trail.[4] A local recreation area in the south of the lake was developed in terms of infrastructure, but was not built on and completed due to the boggy subsoil. As part of the construction of the Weser tunnel and federal highway 437, the lake was to be partially designated as a nature reserve and a second lake was to be created to the north, but this was rejected for the construction of the Loxpark industrial area (source: Wikipedia).

Stoteler See has so many beautiful corners. I am particularly fascinated by the riverside paths parallel to the main path with small bays that invite you to sunbathe in the summer or have a picnic. Hidden and covered with reeds, partly very beautiful and not obviously visible.

The Hamberger Moor is the wild and romantic part of the Teufelsmoor. Here you may encounter a shy adder or beautiful butterflies on lonely moor lakes. Tour guide Sigrid Grimsehl clearly explains how the moor was settled and the adverse circumstances associated with peat extraction and survival in the wet area. Guided tours after registration. Very beautiful lake, absolutely recommended for nature lovers! Unfortunately, you can't walk all the way around, because the path is overgrown.

If you want to take a break, this is the place for you. On the one hand, the Mühlencafe' with delicious cake is recommended, or if you just want to take a short break, sit down on the bench right by the pond and enjoy the lively ducks and their chatter;-)).

Nice but also strenuous sandy sections. The environment invites you to linger, so it is also suitable for a long, quiet break.

Definitely walk both paths through the moor. Some tours leave you out, which I think is a shame.
