The Höllental (until 1900 Höllenthal) in the Franconian Forest is the section of the Selbitz river valley between Hölle and Blechschmidtenhammer in the district of Hof.

Volcanic activity during prehistoric times shaped this region. In the Neolithic period, the course of the Selbitz river sawed up to 170 meters deep into the volcanic rock and created a narrow gorge.
