The Prälatenweiher is a pond in the municipality of Mönchsdeggingen in the Nördlinger Ries. It is located in a forest area between the towns of Untermagerbein and Bollstadt. The pond, artificially created in the late Middle Ages, originally served the monks of the Mönchsdeggingen monastery for fish farming. Since the monastery was secularized in 1803, the pond has been owned by the princely house of Oettingen-Wallerstein. Up until the 1960s there was a bathing hut on the banks of the pond.

A really beautiful and quiet pond. This artificial pond originally served the monks of the Mönchsdeggingen monastery for fish farming.

You should definitely see the ruins of the high-rise building before they come off completely. Since it is owned by the House of Oettingen, the preservation of the monument can no longer be foreseen. It's a shame that our historical heritage is allowed to be treated in this way.
