The Nordoe Inland Dunes are now a 407-hectare nature reserve and part of the National Natural Heritage. The area is characterized by a mix of diverse habitats: open sandy areas, heathlands, and wetlands. There are both pine-covered inland dunes and scrub-like oak woodlands. The Nordoe Inland Dunes are an important refuge for rare and endangered animal and plant species. The ecosystem depends on the nutrient-poor conditions and open landscape. To maintain these conditions, the area is now managed through extensive grazing with Galloways, Highland cattle, and Exmoor ponies.

The nature reserve Nordoer Heide invites you to take long walks and bike rides. Nordoer Heide (c) Holstein Tourism and photocompay Nordoer Heide (c) Holstein Tourism and photocompay Nordoer Heide (c) Holstein Tourism and photocompay Address: Birkenweg 25569 Kremperheide contact person Telephone: 0 43 12 - 10 90 10 1 Email: info[at]stiftungsland.de Website: http://www.stiftungsland.de Email: web[at]kremperheide.de Website: http://www.kremperheide.de Bleating goats and quietly grazing horses move through a picturesque heathland. Bathing lakes invite you to cool off. The best thing about it - the nature reserve Nordoer Heide is located at the gates of Itzehoe, directly at Kremperheide train station. The perfect destination for a day trip. Whether on foot or by bike - there is a lot to discover on the approximately 400 hectare former military training area, for example the Galloway cattle, Exmoor ponies and Boer goats that graze on the heath to preserve the landscape. The Nordoer Heide nature reserve is located south-west of Itzehoe and, with its approx. 400 hectares, was used as a military training area until 2007. Through this form of use, unique biotopes for rare plant and animal species could develop, so that in addition to mighty pines, heather herbs, beach grass, rarer species such as the marsh gentian and the whorled moorwort can be discovered here. Today the area is under protection with its FFH status and thus offers the ideal opportunity to enjoy this landscape undisturbed. After an exciting expedition through the heath landscape, visitors can also get refreshments in the heath house just around the corner. The best way to reflect on the impressions is over a steaming coffee and a delicious piece of cake. Source: https://www.holstein-tourismus.de/de/unsere-region/detailsicht/detail/nordoer-heide.html

The Deckman sand pits are a former mining area where quartz sand was mined until around 1986. The Kuhlen can be reached via the Birkenweg past the Heidehaus from the south or from the north via the Schwarzen Dorn path. The sand dug to the east is owned by the municipality of Kremperheide and has been a registered bathing opportunity since 2000. The western hollow belongs to the SAV Itzehoe. Swimming is forbidden there. Only members of the SAV Itzehoe or holders of a valid guest card are allowed to fish.
