Since 2020, a terroir f can also be found in Hammelburg on Ofenthaler Berg. Four architecturally designed listening stations bring the varied history of viticulture in Franconia to life in words and pictures. A wonderful view over the old town of Hammelburg, surrounded by walls and towers, over to the Schlossberg with Saaleck Castle and into the hilly landscape of the Upper Rhön, make this place unique! The theme of the Hammelburger terroir f-point is the Franconian wine-growing history: The path begins with the beginnings of wine-growing in Franconia and ends with the panel about wine-growing today. Listening stations are integrated into the four time tables: at the push of a button, texts are played in which historical figures such as Charlemagne, Pastor Georg Horn and winemakers from the 19th century shed light on the history of viticulture in Hammelburg. The open-air chapel is reminiscent of the former Kilianstein Castle, whose history includes: is connected to the von Thüngen noble family, which has left its mark in many places in the region. In 1608 it was pledged to the University of Würzburg. From 1660 the castle was no longer inhabited and fell into ruins. From 1904 to 1958, basalt was mined at the top of the Sodenberg, which was originally around 20 m higher. The castle ruins also fell victim to the crater created by the mining - only the cross chapel remained.
