The castle grounds with the remains of the early medieval ring wall system are a cultural monument.

The open-air museum is located on the site of the former Rodenberg Castle, which was later converted into a palace. This "museum island" is surrounded by a moat and houses the Ständehaus, the only surviving building of the old palace, which was badly damaged by fire in 1859. In the Ständehaus there is an exciting exhibition to discover that brings the history of the region to life.

Since spring 2024, the entire castle grounds have been fenced off and can no longer be entered.

Waldschlösschen restaurant on the golf course

In the outdoor area of the open-air museum are the fortress towers around the castle wall, which were only uncovered in 2000. After more than four years, the Förderverein Schloss Rodenberg e. V. in autumn 2004 the excavation and partial restoration of the two artillery towers and their weirs on the castle wall. Parts of a castle fortification of the Counts of Holstein and Schaumburg from the largely unexplored transitional period between the late Middle Ages and early modern times were excavated. Due to its state of preservation and the architectural details of the fortress (including the staircase in the thickness of the wall and the casemate on the side of the wall in the bastion), the monument protection authorities describe the complex as "unique at least for Northern Germany and of monument preservation value as well as particularly suitable for the history and change in military technology requirements of the late Middle Ages up to the early modern period". Crazy that there used to be a castle here. You can see the wall very well.

The excursion restaurant "Zum Waldschlösschen" is located in a secluded location on two small ponds between Osterberg and Deister. It was bought at auction by the golf club in 2003 and extensively renovated. Since then, the Waldschlösschen has been used as a club restaurant and as an excursion restaurant. The romantic half-timbered building used to be a pond keeper's house and later became a tourist restaurant. The Waldschlösschen was and is a popular destination for hikers. The inn is also popular for family celebrations. Guests and golfers - this is not a contradiction in terms, as the past has shown. Here you can still see some remains of a ruined castle complex. Located on a ridge, today a MTB route leads through it.
