Something hides the sign for Heisterburg. After a short distance we reach the remains of an old refuge. Right at the entrance, a board where, if not smeared, you can read everything worth knowing. But in brief: The Heisterburg is an old Germanic flying castle. In times of danger, the nearby population, including their mobile property, could find shelter here. When this Wallburg was really built, the historians argue about it. The finds that were made in the complex pointed to the 10th to 12th century. The main castle is about 105 x 85 m in size and is surrounded by a 1.70 m strong mortar wall. At the rear were wall piles surrounded by a 2.50 m deep ditch. In the NW and SO corner were gates that could be closed in case of danger.

The Heisterburg in the Deister dealt with the remains of a fortified castle from the 10th to the 12th century near the Lauenau district of Feggendorf on the territory of the municipality Nenndorf in Lower Saxony.
