2월 12, 2026, Beinwil-Montsevelier mit etwas Gravel
The very quiet pass from Beinwil to Montsevelier is one of the few options for crossing the hills of the Laufental valley towards Delémont if you want to avoid the busy, flat road along the Birs river. The alternative route is via the Passwang and Scheltenpass. The only drawbacks are a short, rough section of gravel at the very top and a few inexperienced farm dogs (be careful at Ober Bös and Le Greierlet), but otherwise it's a very pleasant little Jura mountain pass road.

The Welschgätterli is a mountain pass between Montsevelier in the canton of Jura and Erschwil in the canton of Solothurn. Its summit is at an altitude of 810 meters above sea level, directly on the border between the two cantons. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads over the pass, connecting the two villages. You can also hike past the Welschgätterli on the Chemin du Val Terbi, which takes you on a circular route over the heights around Montsevelier. From the summit of the pass, the hike to Montsevelier takes about half an hour and to Erschwil around 40 minutes.

A pass that surprised me! I struggled to get into the rhythm at first (pretty flat but some really dry ramps!) and then some steep switchbacks in full sun! There is a fountain at the Scheltenmühle (visit 6/23)

A small, well-paved side road connects Erschwil with Meltingen over a gentle pass below Mettenberg. Lots of nature, great views on the descent in both directions. Perfect for every tour!

Beautiful small pass without much traffic, can be combined with the Ammonitenweg between Oberütti and the route from Kleinlützel via the Rämel to the Challpass / Blauen as a natural and low-traffic alternative on the approach to the Blauen.

This little gem of a pass is magnificent with very little traffic, you might see the military doing some exercises here but that is about it. A lot of natural beauty and excellent panorama view.

The Scheltenpass, one of my favorite passes. On the Jurassic side, along the Scheltebach, it is particularly romantic. Unfortunately, there is a motorcycle race here on Sundays and public holidays as well.
