What a charming and lovely place to stop for refreshments up here on the Teufelskanzel! 👍 I really like the place and the food was delicious too.

Due to its location, the inn has a rather small menu, which is posted on the building. There are a few small dishes such as minced meat or cheese platters, soups, but often also two or three regular hot dishes that change frequently. The cuisine remains consistently regional. Prices are somewhat higher, but not excessively expensive considering the location and the effort involved in transporting the food by regular car. You can sit comfortably in the beer garden under trees and umbrellas with a view of the Teufelskanzel (Devil's Pulpit) or in the rustic inn. The restrooms are in a separate building, and the door is usually open, contrary to the signs on site. Unlike the official opening hours, the inn was open from 11:00 AM (instead of 12:00 PM) when we visited.

The barn district in the Schlüsselburg district of Petershagen still comprises 26 barns that are built together in a very small space. During the Thirty Years' War there were repeated lootings and fires that hit the population hard. The close proximity of the buildings quickly led to the loss of all winter supplies in the event of a fire. At the beginning of the 17th century, people began to build storage barns outside the town in a flood-protected area. The barns, built close together, still form the unique panorama of the barn district today.

The name “Ausspanne” derives from the tradition of unharnessing the horses here during the difficult crossing of the Thuringian forest ridge. The Eisfelder Ausspanne is an important crossroads on the Rennsteig and offers hikers various route options. Whether you come from Masserberg or Waffenrod or visit the Werraquelle - this place is an ideal starting or finishing point for numerous hikes. The space itself is equipped with many benches and tables, making it an inviting place for a longer rest. Here you can relax, enjoy the silence of the forest and strengthen yourself for the rest of your journey. It is also a popular meeting point for hikers who come here to exchange experiences and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
