The church of the village of Vandré dates from the 13th century, the ced5 of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic.

A simple 12th century Romanesque church. There isn't much of a rush here, so you can enjoy the soothing tranquility for a few minutes.

Also within the castle walls is the 11th-century Romanesque church of Notre-Dame de Surgères. The interior impresses with its sublime simplicity of light stone.

The town housed a castle in the 12th century when the lords of the town played an important political role in the region. Today, there remains the 16th century enclosure, which has been altered several times over the course of the wars. The park of the castle, raised and rich in stories, constitutes a place of rest and pleasant walk.

In February 1787, Marie Louise Henriette married a young officer, Étienne-Pierre de Montbron: the current owners of this castle are their direct descendants.

The Saint-Léonard tunnel was built around 1850 by Spanish prisoners of war and convicts. The special blue limestone extracted from the works was used to make lime mortar for Fort Boyard.
