The castle burned down in 2008. Afterwards, it was renovated with public funding and was supposed to reopen in 2011. The construction site looks like it's been abandoned for years. The roof is only half-covered; the other half is rotting away.

A beautiful old castle, unfortunately left to decay. There are old cars and scrap metal on the grounds. Some windows and panes are missing. The castle is under video surveillance.

Voigtsberg Castle was the administrative center of the southern Vogtland for almost 600 years. After its destruction in the Thirty Years' War, Voigtsberg Castle was rebuilt as a palace in 1633.

You shouldn't expect to see a castle or castle ruins here. All that remains is a moat filled with water around the former location of the castle. But the whole thing is beautifully situated in the Zeidelweiden valley.
