The castle is sadly falling into ruin. It belonged to the von und zu Zwernitz family, who were expelled from the Sudetenland after the Second World War. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, there was still a restaurant here. Now, some of the windows are missing. Nevertheless, the grounds are under video surveillance.

The castle burned down in 2008. Afterwards, it was renovated with public funding and was supposed to reopen in 2011. The construction site looks like it's been abandoned for years. The roof is only half-covered; the other half is rotting away.

We would have expected anything here but not such a beautiful property... 😀

You shouldn't expect to see a castle or castle ruins here. All that remains is a moat filled with water around the former location of the castle. But the whole thing is beautifully situated in the Zeidelweiden valley.

Beautifully arranged rest areas where you can recharge your batteries.

Moderately difficult hike on forest management paths in the middle of a largely healthy mixed forest. Particularly beautiful in autumn, of course, because of the beautiful foliage color! The Schönfeld Castle is merely imaginary, as the hiker's imagination is required to imagine it in the middle of the small forest lake!

In the time after the border was opened there was also a restaurant here. But it's been closed for a long time.
