The estate extends over 3,700 hectares, with a three-winged building on a hill surrounded by a moat. The estate, documented since 1330, changed hands through marriages between important Danish families such as Gøye, Brahe, Rosenkrantz, and Reventlow-Hardenberg. Between 1815 and 1938, the estate was known as Hardenberg, reflecting its connection to the County of Hardenberg-Reventlow.

You drive past the lake and then stand in Nysted Harbor with a magnificent view of Aalhorn Castle. We lingered on the benches and enjoyed this view for a long time.

Although the castle is not open to the public, the causeway offers a magnificent view of the fortress on the Nystedfjord. This is one of Denmark's best-preserved medieval castles.

At this point there are some beautiful forest paths to cross with the MTB.

The main building is privately owned and cannot be visited.

The three-wing building stands on a narrow, rectangular hill surrounded by a moat. The original stone house from 1490 was extended by statesman Mogens Gøye with three new wings, which formed a closed inner courtyard. A tower was built on the west side. In 1631 Palle Rosenkrantz built an additional storey in the north wing and an octagonal tower in the south-east corner (Wikipedia).
