A 1 km cave trail branches off the main Kätkävaata nature trail at the steepest part of the hill and circles back. The trail includes over ten small caves. The largest cave, named Katedraali, has been described as one of the finest in Finland. Archaeological finds suggest the caves hosted some of Northern Finland’s earliest settlements.

Tervola is a small town in Lapland located just south of Rovaniemi. It lies along the Kemijoki River, offering beautiful natural surroundings, including forests, lakes, and rivers.

The path is not maintained in winter. Therefore, it is advisable to go with snowshoes - especially if there was fresh snow overnight and the path has not been used for several days. I would walk it anti-clockwise - it is easier to walk.

Inhospitable landscape formed in the last ice age. On the mountain there is a lookout tower with a great view over southern Lapland and the neighboring nature reserve Pisavaaran.

As usual in Finland, a barbecue hut including firewood and a dry toilet. The entire infrastructure of the nature trail was renewed in 2021.

The lodge also offers rooms for overnight stays. Sauna also available. Everything is modern but still furnished in a traditional style. We only went there for a coffee after the hike. Including cinnamon rolls.

Built in wood, the building looks very nice. You can take a great photo of the bridge.

You can enjoy the good view from the bridge. Take a short picture and then drive on.
